The fish markets in Murrells and Little River are huge rapist. I checked at the bare min. 8 fish markets all were very high on all of their fish. I did finally buy from a market in M.B. The Gulf is under siege from oil but Joe Patti's from Pensacola can still ship me the same things I picked up in S.C. next day air with a cooler and dry ice for the same $$$$$$ We managed to have a great vacation but I have been to better beaches and fished far better water. S.C. beaches (and we seen many) are dark sand (brown) with dark shells blacks and grays are the dominant color. Pensacola beaches, (before the oil) are sugar sand white with steep drop offs and great surf fishing. The shell colors are whites and oranges. I fished two piers (apache and state park)and caught nothing but I was happy because I was fishing. I didn't get any pleasure from the state parks $10 fee at the gate for my wife and I (must be the smallest state park in the lower 48 we toured the Smokey Mnt. Park for free, over 60 miles) it does have a pier though and I put it to use just no fish. I wouldn't make the 830 mile drive again. Maker of the Frankenstud Sling Keeper |

Seriously, Carolina's are great states for vacation destinations. Besides just beaches, highest point on the East Coast is in Carolina you know. Lots to see and do in the Carolina's and VA. Odessa Campfire Tracker Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 6,284 | I love my traditional eastern NC pork BBQ and agree it's top notch, but I will eat at Maurice's Piggie Park anytime I am in Columbia or Maurice's brothers place in Charleston (Bessinger's BBQ). I even love western BBQ, like Cox Brothers in Manhattan KS - I'll try any reputed good BBQ at least once. Ted, Sorry you didn't like Myrtle Beach, but the Grand Strand is more than one place, you must have found the sorry ones; it is a great place at the good ones. One of the sanest, surest, and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others. |

I don't go north of Surfside Beach but that's by choice. Did you try the Seven Seas and Murrells Inlet seafood market, always gotten a good price when I bought seafood. I have gone to Garden City every summer since 9 months before I was born. It feels right. I have been to many Florida beaches (lived in Miami). They are nice. Been all up and down the coast of Belize(no sand, looked similar to sand, but in fact was gray volcanic ash from South America). Its beautiful. A lot of my friends go to the beach and spend one hour on the beach then shop, ride gokarts, see movies, etc.. I don't get that. I can do those things at home. We camp out on the beach all day long everyday. We stay in the sand from 9:30 am-5:00 pm. I like to play cornhole, swim, throw a football, watch people. My wife reads a book. I take my boat out and fish. Some people need museums/Ripleys/Arcades/Rides/Shows. I guess you need white sand and Joe Pattis. To some of us this place is better than where you speak of. |

Sad, but Ripley's was the best thing about Myrtle and yes, I went for the beach and seafood. Islam is a terrorist organization. |

It's all right there in between Garden City and Pawleys Island. Likely fish out of Georgetown. Gonna do a lot of surf casting this year. As for go karts and shopping we (all 19 of us) go to the beach at 9am and do not come off until about 7pm and home cook local seafood everynight. Best part as far as I'm concerned -- I don't have to get on a stupid plane to get there. 4 hour drive and I am in the ocean for 7 days with NO blackberry or cell phone!!!!!!!! Like you; can't wait. We have a few restaurants we like to frequent so we won't cook at home every night. (T-bones,Prossers, Godfathers Pizza) I will cook eggs, bacon, sausage gravy/biscuits, and grits for breakfast. And at least one morning country ham, scrambled eggs, rice, thin ham gravy, and buttermilk biscuits. |

If you are hauling a bunch of kids with you, especially teenagers they would rather be at a more populated beach. But a lot of adults impose their will on their youngins when it is time for vacation. |

We are at the very end of South Garden City this year. Had to go with a bigger house so we are at Inlet Harbour behind the gates. Been wanting to stay there because that's where the flounder hang. Maybe we'll see ya on the beach. Just look for the big SC Flag and a bunch of kids!! We have a low country boil and fried fish so far on the menu. We'll likely do a Mexican (fish tacos) and BBQ night as well. Always do hot dogs on the beach the last night. And of course, boiled peanuts will be at the ready all week. We did have a good time, but if given a choice on a return we would probably go somewhere else. It is like most place's I have been. You need more than one trip to learn were to go and what to do.
