A man is in custody after a shooting claimed the life of a man in Wagener.
Jonathan Daquan Staley, 22, of Wagener was found by police around 11:15 p.m. May 7 on Highway 302 near Wagener and was taken into custody without incident after a shooting, according to a media release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

His arrest comes after a shooting that took place in the 280 block of Jeffcoat Road in Wagener and police found a male with a gunshot wound to the head.
Aiken County coroner Darryl Ables said the victim, 53-year-old Timothy Davenport of Wagener was transported to the hospital by Aiken County EMS to Lexington Medical Center and died at 8:50 p.m.

Ables said Davenport will be autopsied in Newberry.
Police said Staley was taken to the Aiken County detention center and is expected to be charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police said citizens notified deputies as to the whereabouts of Staley and more information will be released as it becomes available.
Staley is listed as an inmate at the Aiken County detention center and has no bond.
