Road rage: Lexington teen allegedly shoots at another driver on highway near Lake Murray (3)

LEXINGTON — Road rage and a fight over a boyfriend led an 18-year-old to fire his gun at another car while driving on a highway near Lake Murray, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

It started at a gas station at the intersection of Priceville Road and Highway 378 at around 10 p.m. June 4.

At the gas station, a girl in the back seat of a Nissan Xtrerra was "mean mugging" another, according to the incident report. The two had issues with each other for four years over a boyfriend, the victim reportedly told deputies.

"When she asked her what the issue was she replied 'you know why,'" the reports says.

The Nissan, driven by 18-year-old Logan Nathanial Cason, left the gas station. The other car left shortly after, but saw the Nissan pulled over on the side of the road. They decided to turn around, but the Nissan followed, according to the incident report.

While driving on Highway 378, the Nissan started flashing their high beams and tailgating the sedan, the report says.

Cason pulled up next to the sedan and began throwing bottles and beer cans at the car, the report says. He then raised his handgun and fired several times, according to the report.

"Deputies interviewed a group of witnesses right after this happened, which we believe started as a road rage incident," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. "The witnesses all told deputies Cason fired a handgun into the air as he drove, then pointed it toward the car beside him and fired more shots."

Multiple shell casings were found on the road along with a cans of Twisted Tea and Coors Light, according to the incident report.

The sheriff said the location of the evidence found on the scene was "consistent with the information witnesses shared with deputies."

During interviews with witnesses, deputies identified Cason as the alleged shooter. They arrested him at his home near Lake Murray. He's charged with three counts of first-degree assault and battery and one count of pointing a firearm at a person, according to arrest warrants.

He was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. He has since been released.
